## A garden party with room for food and guests

For a private garden party, the route from the house to the table matters alongside the menu. Start with usable space. A manageable meal sequence and assigned tasks help hosts spend time with their guests.

### Connect tables, service and returns

Check routes with chairs in place. Appropriate surfaces for food and used tableware keep access to the house clear. Agree seating, movement space and requested assistance directly with the guests concerned.

### A few dishes that share well

A vegetable strudel with salad or a shared main with coordinated bowls may suit the garden better than many stations. Include glasses and serving utensils when checking table space. Confirm the actual preparation and serving needs of hot food.

### Prepare a workable change of setting

The alternative must accommodate both guests and food. Decide who makes the change and which furniture needs moving. Agree refrigeration, equipment storage and collection whether or not the afternoon ultimately stays outdoors.

### Questions about this occasion

**Can a garden party work without a buffet?**

Yes. Table sharing or a coordinated plated meal may suit the setting. Consider reach, table space and the actual service required.

**What makes a useful rain plan?**

It includes guests, food and routes together. Sheltered food alone is insufficient when the full group has nowhere suitable to gather.

**Can family members take on tasks?**

Yes, with receiving, replenishment and clearing assigned to named people. Agree the supplied service and the tasks deliberately retained by the family.
